Destination Laguna de la Magdalena, birth place of the Magdalena River, one of the most important rivers in Colombia

LAGUNA DE LA MAGDALENA: THE PLACE WHERE THE MAGDALENA RIVER (ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT IN COLOMBIA) IS BORN.

One of the most interesting destinations in Colombia in the height of the mountains, outstanding landscapes and rare ecosystems are some of the attractions of this spot a must see among the list of natural places in Colombia.

It is a horse riding road up to 3.500 meters above the sea level in limits of Huila and Caucadepartment (south – west Colombia). There are traditional farms on the way up, and in the middle of the forest reservation is possible to watch the diversity of trees and animals, beautiful flowers all along the road.

At 3000 meters we find a path to cross by one side of the Laguna de la Magdalena and the other one leads to a watch tower where u can see in good weather conditions the Laguna de la Magdalena, Santiago and Sur America.

It is also a very difficult physical proof; either trekking or horse riding it is a challenge for the adventurers. A couple of hours far from this watch tower into the Cauca department we find small villages where is possible to spend the night with the horses, all these are very beautiful experiences in contact with nature, natives say this used to be an enchanted place where many people died in the past because of the weather conditions but for lovers of nature is one of the most beautiful spots of the paramount’s around Colombia.

Although it is not very high, climate conditions up there are very extreme and this makes it a very difficult proof but also a very powerful experience and opportunity to get in contact with Mother Nature. Traditional mountain refugees, friendly people, very good food in 5 days of outdoor activities.
